About the company

The client is a pharmaceutical company with operations in more than 34 countries across the world. The company specialises in the production and distribution of a diverse range of drugs and medical products. It has established partnerships with medical institutions, universities, and other organisations to advance its research efforts.

Client requirement

The client has developed an e-learning course covering various aspects of the pharmaceutical industry. Information like, product information, regulations, and safety procedures. In order to ensure that the e-learning course could be accessed and understood by its global employee in regions where its products are sold, the client want to localise the course into multiple languages.

Project Objective

The primary objective of localising the e-learning existing course was to provide a comprehensive training program for their employees across the world. This process is essential for companies that operate in diverse regions of the world and have employees who speak different languages. By localising the e-learning course, the client aimed to ensure that its employees worldwide could access and benefit from the course.

Furthermore, localisation would enable the client to comply with local laws and regulations while ensuring that the content remained accurate and of high quality.

Challenge in the project

The major problem is that the client does not have the source files to extract the content.

Our approach for translation and localisation

The lack of source files is a significant issue because it limits our ability to extract and use the existing content in the most efficient and effective manner.

One possible solution is to use existing course as a reference to recreate the content. However, this process requires a thorough analysis of the content to ensure that all essential elements are captured and any new or updated information is incorporated.

An alternative approach is to utilise advanced technologies, such as optical character recognition (OCR), to extract text from available courses. However, it is important to note that the accuracy of the extracted text may not be perfect and require significant editing.

Project execution

We consider using OCR technology and conducting a thorough content analysis to extract text from the available course, ensuring all essential elements are captured and updated information is incorporated.

When localising content for different countries and languages, we face several challenges. Here are some of the challenges:

    1. While localising the content we must make sure that their content is appropriate and sensitive to the cultural norms and beliefs of the target audience.
    2. Complex medical terminology may vary from country to country, so it is important to ensure that the content is customised to meet the technical requirements of the target country.
    3. Maintaining consistency in terminology and style across the e-learning course.
    4. We need to ensure that the content meets the regulatory requirements of the target country, including legal and regulatory requirements.
    5. The use of idiomatic expressions, colloquialisms, and slang can also pose challenges, as they may not have direct translations in the target language.
    6. Coordinating with the client and translators to meet the timeline for delivery of the localised content, especially when working with multiple languages and regions.
    7. Ensuring the accuracy and quality of the translated content, especially in highly-regulated industries like pharmaceuticals.

Due to the lack of source files for the existing eLearning course, we have created a new course from scratch. To facilitate easy adaptation and localisation for different languages, we have created editable source files.

Customisable media assets

Localisation of media assets for different languages involves adapting the content to suit the target learners, which includes translating any text, adding subtitles, recording voice-overs, and more. We have used editable source files for multimedia assets, it is easier to make these adaptations and ensure that the final product is suitable for the target learners.

Use images and text on images

In order to localise an eLearning course, it is important to consider all aspects of the course, including the visual components such as images. We have created editable images to make it simpler to add translated text for different languages without losing the original quality of the image.

Font compatibility with target languages

For proper Display of text in your target languages, it is important to test the compatibility of fonts beforehand. Some fonts may not be available or may not be compatible with certain languages, which can lead to issues with text display.

Therefore, we conduct font testing to identify any potential compatibility issues and make necessary adjustments to ensure that the course can be easily localised for different languages.

Consistency of eLearning course and quality control

We have implemented a comprehensive quality control process to ensure the highest quality of the e-learning course. This process includes several key components.

Style guides are documents that outline the rules and guidelines for the use of language, tone, and formatting in the course. These guides help to ensure consistency in terminology and throughout the course, providing a more cohesive and professional experience for learners.

Timeline and coordination

In order to ensure a smooth and successful project, there is a dedicated project manager who will act as the main point of contact for the client. The project manager will work closely with the client to develop a detailed timeline and schedule for the project. The timeline and schedule will be designed to ensure that the project is completed within the agreed timeframe and budget.

Throughout the completion of the project, we maintain open communication channels with the client and provide regular updates on the progress of the project. This helps to ensure that any issues or concerns are identified and addressed in a timely manner, and that the project stays on track.

To ensure the highest level of quality for the final product, we will conduct regular quality assurance checks throughout the project. These checks will be carried out by our team of experienced linguists and subject matter experts, who will review the translated content for accuracy, consistency, and ethnic appropriateness. Any issues or errors will be flagged for correction, and the final product will be thoroughly reviewed and tested before delivery to the client.

In addition, we also work with the client to identify any potential hurdles or challenges that may arise during the project and develop contingency plans to address them. This proactive approach helps to minimise delays and ensures that the project is completed on time and within budget.

Overall, we are committed to delivering high-quality, accurate, and localised content to our clients. We strive to provide exceptional customer service and support throughout the project and we are dedicated to ensuring the success of every localisation project we undertake.
